C’è elettricità nell’aria al Palasavelli, in una domenica che sembrava non arrivare mai. Partono subito fortissime entrambe le formazioni: il quintetto titolare gialloblu è formato da Simmons, Negri, Palermo, Corbett e ovviamente Amoroso; coach Cagnazzo schiera Rinaldi, Dillard, Baldasso, Totè e Jones. Un primo quarto che va via liscio come l’olio, con un incessante botta e risposta che fa capire come l’Aurora proprio non ci sta a fare la vittima sacrificale. Punitivo Simmons in schiacciata volante sul 18/17, dopo una palla persa jesina.

Totè su rimbalzo mette dentro due punti per chiudere i primi dieci minuti sul pareggio 19/19; salvifica la sua presenza sul parquet per Jesi, con 17 punti sulle mani e 7/9 al tiro. Pure acrobazie quelle sotto canestro di Dillard, che si intrufola fra la difesa blu e come una scheggia impazzita segna a più riprese da sotto, fino a trovare il -1 (33/32), che impone a Pancotto di richiedere timeout. Palermo spinge sull’acceleratore e porta su palla con tecnica e velocità al tempo stesso, servendo a Amoroso una giocata che come per magia si trasforma in due punti (38/35). Tre minuti alla fine del primo tempo e la partita è a dir poco aperta; se non fosse che dopo un buon Negri in solitaria da sotto, Simmons si riaggancia al ferro appena può e la XL Extralight inizia a mettere il piede avanti (42/37). Break.

Top scorer dei primi venti minuti LaMarshall Corbett, con 13 punti (71% al tiro, 2 rimbalzi, 2 falli), alla faccia che sarebbe dovuto rimanere in panchina. Certo la squadra di casa gioca in maniera più fluida e misurata, a differenza di una Aurora a tratti inspiegabilmente farraginosa. Ma sono ancora Totè e Dillard a tenere alto l’onore di casa (53/49), per altro supportata da un centinaio di tifosi. Simmons regala showtime incredibili al Palasavelli, gremito con le sue 2.850 presenze. Sul 53 pari l’americano segna e va alla lunetta, dove però non mette a segno il libro (55/53). Chiude il terzo quarto Palermo con una tripla (62/58), mentre Petrovic apre l’ultimo su assist di Treier.

In un contrasto Jones rimane a terra, mentre Corbett va tranquillamente a canestro (66/58). L’ago della bilancia che finora era posizionato al centro pende per la squadra casalinga, ora che Jones è fuori dai giochi. Ma dopo qualche azione a tinta gialloblu, eccolo che rientra in campo a dare il suo contributo alla causa (68/62). Traini è punitivo dai 675 centimetri. Risponde Dillard ai liberi (2/2) e sono vari i tentativi di raggiungere il canestro per la Termoforgia, ma tutti impattano contro una difesa spinosa. Dillard, completamente libero, mette due bombe di seguito ed ecco che il basket si manifesta in tutto il suo splendore, permettendoti di rimanere con il fiato sospeso fino alla fine della partita. Il tabellone sentenzia 71/70 con solo un minuto e mezzo da giocare.

Dubbia la realizzazione di Amoroso sulla sirena dei 24’’, è palla arancione. Ancora 60 secondi per sapere chi si porta a casa il derby marchigiano. Amoroso, non aiutato, perde una palla importante sotto canestro ed è timeout con rimessa arancione. Palla in mano a Dillard, che tira ma non entra. Ancora -1 per Jesi, che viene beffata a 12 secondi dalla fine, con 2/2 ai liberi di Corbett. Rinaldi prova il tiro della speranza da tre, sperando in un fallo subito che però non viene fischiato. Il derby si chiude sul 73/70.

Prima del match è stato osservato un minuto di silenzio in rispetto del lutto che ha colpito Tommaso Rinaldi, cui è venuto a mancare il papà proprio nel giorno dell’esordio del campionato. Lasciato assolutamente libero di scegliere se scendere in campo o meno dalla società, il capitano ha deciso di non far mancare il suo apporto alla squadra.
