Veniva da un tris la Poderosa scesa in campo nell’infrasettimana della quarta giornata di campionato. E ora sono a quattro su quattro. Rompe il ghiaccio Corbett con una delle sue triple, e sempre lui fino in fondo in velocità in solitaria firma il raddoppio del 12/6. Come Ferrara accenna un riaggancio, è sempre l’americano a mettere il piede avanti (15/12). Ma gli ospiti recuperano subito, e in un batter d’occhio la capacità di gestione di Fantoni e la fisicità di Hall permettono a coach Bonacina di tirare un sospiro di sollievo per il primo quarto, limitando i danni a -3 (23/20).

Nonostante la non più giovanissima età di Swann (33 anni compiuti per lui), è l’americano di San Diego a trascinare i suoi nel match contro la temibile Poderosa; e forse non è un caso se è il primo giocatore in doppia cifra della serata. Sempre suo il tiro da tre che fa scivolare avanti la Bondi a +2 (30/32). Di nuovo parità con Corbett che segna, subisce e va al tiro (1/1). Dopo un tecnico a coach Bonacina e un evidente fallo non fischiato a Hall, l’americano tira fuori la grinta e diventa punitivo con una delle sue schiacciate. Si scaldano gli animi al Palasavelli, che nonostante il turno infrasettimanale ha registrato la bellezza di un migliaio di presenze.

Showtime american-veregrense con la stoppata di Simmons a Hall e poi Corbett completamente libero da tre.La doppia realizzazione di Amoroso rende necessario il minuto di sospensione per la Bondi, che chiude a -2 il primo tempo con Swann (44/42). A batterie ricaricate la partita è ancora equilibrata, con buone giocate da parte di Molinaro e Fantoni, cui rispondono per le rime Amoroso e Treier, visibilmente cresciuto rispetto allo scorso anno.
Vani gli sforzi casalinghi per contenere l’esuberanza ferrarese: zero a zero, palla al centro si direbbe nel calcio: l’ultimo quarto si chiude sul 68/68. Zampini a terra dopo 2 minuti, probabilmente un problema al ginocchio che non lo farà rientrare per il resto del match.

Ferrara è sopra di due e coach Pancotto richiede timeout. Sul parquet, a sei minuti alla fine, Swan va a caccia di fallo tecnico, e gli arriva, tanto da mandare alla lunetta Corbett che li mette dentro. Ferrara procede bene, fino a quando un’ombra nera cala su coach Bonacina: Swann esce per cinque falli. Palle perse rovinosamente fanno sentire i primi scricchiolii di una Ferrara che cede sotto i colpi di una insaziabile Poderosa: in campo per la squadra di casa Palermo, Amoroso, Simmons, Corbet e Negri; per la squadra ospite De Zardo, Barbon, Panni, Hall e Fantoni. Due minuti davanti a loro, sull’84/80. Ma arriva la tripla del capitano a cambiare le carte in tavola (87/80). Traini ai liberi sul 87/84 fa il suo dovere (2/2), e l’aiuta Ferrara che proprio sul finale sbaglia di tutto. Il match si chiude 91/86. La partita, iniziata dopo un minuto di silenzio in ricordo di Gilberto Benetton, ha avuto come cornice la serata dello sport, che ha coinvolto molte associazioni sportive del fermano.
